Wandsworth Park

Wandsworth Park

Until 1897, the land was used for allotments. Then, in 1898, it was purchased for £33,000 through a joint effort by the London County Council, the Wandsworth District Board, and public donations. The park's design was the work of Lt. Col. J. J. Sexby, a horticulturist who was also the Superintendent of Parks for London County Council at the time. It officially opened on Saturday, February 28, 1903. Today, the park still features two Victorian stink pipes, originally installed to ventilate Joseph Bazalgette’s innovative sewer system.
